Eve Cozens

I cannot remember a time when I did not scribble – words, drawings and pictures. I took extra art classes at school and have painted on and off throughout my life. I spent much of my free time over the years visiting art galleries and learning about art. I have always written too, and been a journalist, magazine contributor, and writer of fiction. Under my pen name, Eve Bonham, I am a published author of 4 books and write micro fiction and blog on my website. Writing was always the prime outlet for my creativity, and it has only been in the last 20 years that I have focussed equally on my painting, discovering the joy, the excitement and the challenges of art. Both are forms of communication and I have much to communicate about the human experience, though I do not fit into any genre with either my writing or my painting.  For years I painted in watercolour, which I still love for its freshness, fluidity, and purity. More recently I have come to enjoy working with pastels and within the past few months, I have started painting with acrylics. I have no regular subject, though I do love trees and birds, water and sky, windows and roofs. I love trying new things and experimenting with media, colour and style. I was recently inspired during one of our art group workshops to try abstract painting. It’s not easy to define what my work depicts but I hope it’s about anything and everything.  One of my art group friends once said that all my paintings tell a story, and I was as pleased as punch about her comment, because that’s what I am – a storyteller both in words and in art.
