Silk Painting with Natasha Barr

Natasha, who is one of our members, treated us to an evening of Silk Painting where we learnt some new techniques and then had a try ourselves.
Silk painting is a very accessible art form that allows you to create vivid, flowing designs on silk fabric, using special dyes, inks or paints. This technique has a long and rich history, dating back over 2,000 years to ancient China, where silk was treasured not only for clothing but also as a surface for artistic expression. It later spread to countries like Japan, India, and eventually Europe, each culture adding its own unique style. Today, silk painting is enjoyed around the world and you don’t need to be an expert to get started—just a few simple materials, a bit of curiosity, and a willingness to play with colour and pattern.
